Our Goal: Zero Waste
In June of 2002 the Ridge Meadows Recycling Society adopted "A Plan for Zero Waste".   As a concept, zero waste is a goal that goes beyond recycling and means decreasing consumption and turning what is currently considered waste into efficient new resources.  The success of zero waste depends on designing products and industrial processes so that components can be dismantled, repaired and recycled.  Only by beginning to ‘close the loop’ can we hope to develop sustainable economies – that is, long term development strategies that work on three fronts:  economic, social and environmental.  Ridge Meadows Recycling Society plans to help bring this concept to municipal, provincial governments and to lobby business and industry to adopt policies and practices to make zero waste a reality.

How you can help:

1. Watch Your Waste: Keep recycling!

2. Remember the Bottom Line: When you buy something, think about whether you can recycle it or reuse it when you’re done. If not, reconsider your purchase. Buy products with recycled content whenever possible.

3. Compost: More than 30% or household garbage can be composted. Give it back to nature.  Call us to find out how to get started.

4. Grasscycle: Leave the clippings on the lawn. It’s good for the grass and reduces waste. Call us to learn a few simple techniques.

5. Naturescape: Plant native, low maintenance, water-wise plants and reduce the need for fertilization, aeration, mowing and precious water resources. Call us to find out how.
